TM Systems Intro's Industry's 1st "QC Station™" & "RenderStation™" at NAB 2005

04/08/2005

TM Systems, the Emmy® Award Winning developer of the industry's first and only fully integrated, "end to end" language transcription, translation, dubbing, subtitling and closed captioning system, has introduced two, new firsts and will be showcasing both, along with the entire TM Systems language localization solution, at the upcoming NAB Convention, in Las Vegas.Together with the other TM Systems language modules or "Stations", the QC Station™ , or independent quality control module for individual desktop use, and the RenderStation™, a bitmap generation module that takes subtitling scripts in the form of Word documents created by the TM TranStation™, containing text, time code and vertical positioning for each subtitle, generating both a navigation file and a TIFF file per subtitle, specifically for DVD authoring, provides a complete solution that greatly increases the efficiency of the translation, subtitling and dubbing process, while minimizing the hardware and software investments required on the part of the studios, networks and their respective dubbing and subtitling vendors. The QC Station™ is a quality control software application that dramatically alters the traditional workflow of a dubbing and/or subtitling project. The QC Station™ does away with the lengthy and time consuming process of laying back an audio track onto a videotape, making a dub of that tape and then shipping it to designated locations where it is reviewed by quality assurance personnel. Similarly, it enables the user to simulate subtitling text prior to compositing the text either electronically or physically. Before the QC Station™ introduction, the process required going through typical long and costly shipping procedures before the soundtrack and subtitles could be checked for missing dialogues, casting or spelling errors, lip-synch, etc. With the QC Station™, as in all of the TM Systems software components, dramatic savings, both in time and related costs can be realized.

This is accomplished because both audio and text files are securely sent, over the Internet from worldwide localization entities and simulated against digital video on any desktop, anywhere. This enables the QC personnel to perform a first level of script checking that includes mainly linguistic and dramatic parameters, for dubbing projects and reading speed, and text placement in the subtitling projects. This process eliminates the need to occupy an audio mixing or editing suite, or wait for a layback and VHS dub to be made. The QC Station™, is the first tool to offer the QC professional the opportunity to combine video, audio and text in one single, synchronized quality assurance station. The RenderStation™ is a bitmap generation module that takes subtitling scripts in the form of Word documents created by the TM Systems TranStation™ containing text, time code and vertical positioning for each subtitle, generating both a navigation file and a TIFF file per subtitle, specifically for DVD authoring. The files are then used by different DVD authoring environments, bitmap-based subtitle transmission systems (such as DVB) and character generators that require bitmaps to overlay subtitles on video. The RenderStation™ allows for multiple screen resolutions for video standards (NTSC, PAL, different high definition formats, etc.) and aspect ratios (4x3, 16x9, etc.), and includes controls for fine screen positioning, text justification, Windows TrueType font selection, all with full Unicode compatibility, character body and edge colors, transparency and thickness. The rendering process is extremely fast, typically taking only a couple of minutes for a 1000-subtitle project, on a standard, Pentium IV machine, and is controlled by a very intuitive user interface. The RenderStation™ runs on any Windows operating environment, including Windows 98 SE, ME, 2000 and XP.The TM Systems software family of products, includes the PrepStation™ (digitizes and encrypts files); the TranStation™ (formats scripts for dubbing, subtitling, closed captioning and bitmap subtitling); the DubStation II™ (incorporates video and dialogue in one display for dubbing session) and the SubStation™ (the burning station that creates subtitles on any format).

The TM Systems technology is utilized by leading film studios and television networks, dubbing and subtitling facilities throughout the world. TM's technology significantly reduces the costs of the language localization process, reduces the risk of piracy of the video content and improves the quality of the language localization product, assuring "matched" language versions, in any language, any character set, and any format, for the very first time. The revolutionary system is the recipient of the Emmy® Award for Outstanding Achievement in Engineering Development and last year's AIM (Achievement in Media) award, at the NAB, for the introduction of the DubStation II™.TM Systems will showcase its entire integrated "end to end" language localization solution at this year's NAB Convention in Las Vegas, April 18-21, at booth #SU10367 in the South Hall.
